  • Krist P, Kenosha, WI

"After nearly burning down our 100 year old home using a heat gun to strip paint, we purchased a Paintshaver Pro. In about 4 hours time, we had stripped and sanded nearly twice the area we had done with the heat guns, and did so with far better results. This machine pays for itself in saved time in less than one day on the job."

  • Grovom Painting, Helena, Montana

"We have been restoring mansions and stripping homes for years. We had used numerous chemical strippers, heat guns, carbide scrapers, sanders, and angle grinders. Having pride in staying ahead of the competition, we eagerly ordered the 13 Amp Paintshaver Pro. UNBELIEVABLE!!! One guy stripped half of a house in one day, something that would have taken us nearly 2 weeks of agony."

  • Joe D, Montgomery, AL

"I am restoring my home built in 1911. It was covered with vinyl siding for 30 years and all the old paint needed to come off. I could not get professional painters to give me an estimate so I purchased a Paintshaver Pro and stripped the house myself. I logged the hours it took to strip roughly 7,000 square feet of exterior and it amazingly took only 124 hours to do the job. The Paintshaver Pro is a great tool!"

Frequently Asked Questions

Which Paintshaver® Pro modelshould I buy for my project?

The 6 Amp handles light-duty jobs like latex, oil, plus lead paint on wood where nails can be avoided. The 9 Amp is built for heavy-duty work on thick lead paint, concrete, fiberglass, plus metal. The 12 Amp delivers the same heavy-duty power with a lifetime warranty for professionals. Call 800-932-5872 for help choosing.

Is the Paintshaver® Pro safe forremoving lead paint?

Yes, when paired with a HEPA-rated vacuum. The built-in dust shroud captures stripped material at the cutting head before it becomes airborne. This keeps lead-contaminated dust contained for safe disposal. Always follow EPA lead-safe work practices, including proper containment plus cleanup, on any pre-1978 home.

Does the tool connect to avacuum? What size vacuum do I need?

Yes. The Paintshaver® Pro connects to any wet/dry or HEPA vacuum with a 1.25-inch inside diameter hose. For lead paint work, a HEPA-rated vacuum is recommended to capture fine lead dust safely. The vacuum is sold separately. A 10-foot replacement hose is available in our accessories.

How long do the blades lastbefore I need to replace them?

Tungsten carbide blades last up to 2,000 square feet on lead paint, up to 4,000 square feet on non-lead paint. Diamond tipped blades last up to 20,000 square feet on wood, 2,000 on fiberglass, plus 200 on concrete or steel. Blade life depends on coating thickness plus surface hardness.

Does the Paintshaver® Pro leave asmooth surface, or do I need to sand after stripping?

The Paintshaver® Pro leaves a scuffed texture after stripping. Follow up with an orbital sander for a smooth, paint-ready finish. The Orbital SanderVac™ Pro is designed for this step, connecting to the same HEPA vacuum to keep sanding dust-free from start to finish.

Is the depth of cut adjustable?

Yes. The cutting depth adjusts from 0 inches to 0.100 inches, letting you match the depth to your coating thickness. In most cases, even heavy lead paint strips in a single pass. Start shallow on unfamiliar surfaces, then increase the depth until the coating comes off cleanly.

Will the Paintshaver® Pro stripthe underside of clapboard or shingle siding?

Yes. The cutting head reaches both the face plus the butt end of clapboards, shingles, plus shakes in a single pass. You do not need to make a separate pass for the underside. This saves significant time on full-house stripping jobs where every clapboard edge needs to be stripped.

I am a homeowner, not acontractor. Is there a learning curve?

There is a short learning curve, mostly around depth adjustment plus handling technique on edges. Most homeowners feel comfortable after the first few square feet. Our how-to videos walk through setup plus technique, plus we answer the phone seven days a week at 800-932-5872 if you need guidance while working.
