"Thank you for the use of your amazing Marine Shaver Pro. What a wonderful tool! I stripped the gelcoat off the bottom of my 36 year old Pearson 26 Sailboat in one day except for under the jackstands which I removed in a couple of hours the following day. Your Marine Shaver Pro attached to my Shop Vac allowed less than a cup of chips and dust to escape. Compared to the mess belt sanding would have created, it was a joy to use; not to mention it's light weight compared to trying to heft a heavy belt sander over my head for hours at a time!"

"I am in the process of applying a Membrane Bottom to a 42 year old, 46' Mahogany Planked Grand Banks Trawler. The boat yard quoted me $5500 and 5 days labor (two men) to get it done. After reading a few articles on Wooden Boat Forum I decided to give the Marineshaver a try. Absolutely the best move I could have made. The project took me a total of 23 hours. REALLY great product."

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the difference between the Marineshaver™ Pro and the GelPeel™ Pro?

The Marineshaver™ Pro is built for boats with strakes, chines, plus flat or large-radius hull surfaces. It also works on wooden boats, concrete, plus steel. The GelPeel™ Pro is designed for smooth-bottom sailboats plus powerboats without strakes. Both include built-in dust collection. See the comparison table above for a full side-by-side breakdown.

Can the Marineshaver™ Pro remove gelcoat from a fiberglass boat?

Yes. The Marineshaver™ Pro strips gelcoat at a rate of one square foot every 20 seconds using Diamond Tipped Blades. It does not generate excessive heat, so the fiberglass laminate underneath stays protected. A 30-foot boat bottom can be stripped in roughly six to eight hours.

How long do the diamond tipped blades last on gelcoat?

Diamond tipped blades last up to 2,000 square feet on gelcoat plus anti-fouling paint. On harder surfaces like concrete or steel, blade life drops to roughly 200 square feet. Blade replacement takes minutes with no special tools. One set of blades will handle most single- boat jobs.

Does the Marineshaver™ Pro connect to a vacuum for dust collection?

Yes. The built-in dust shroud channels stripped debris directly into a connected wet/dry or HEPA vacuum through a 1.25-inch inside diameter hose. This keeps gelcoat dust plus paint chips contained, which is important for boatyard compliance plus cleanup. The vacuum is sold separately.

Will the Marineshaver™ Pro work on a wooden boat?

Yes. The Marineshaver™ Pro strips paint from wooden boat hulls plus topsides. It works on flat planked surfaces plus large-radius curves. For tight curves, detailed trim, or carved areas, a finishing sander or hand method works better. The tool comes standard with Diamond Tipped Blades, which handle both wood-boat paint plus fiberglass gelcoat.

Can the Marineshaver™ Pro damage the fiberglass laminate underneath the gelcoat?

The adjustable depth of cut lets you control exactly how deep the tool strips, from 0 to 0.080 inches. Set it to remove the gelcoat layer without cutting into the laminate. The Diamond Tipped Blades do not generate excessive heat, which avoids the laminate damage that abrasive grinding can cause.

How long does it take to strip a 30-foot boat?

A 30-foot boat bottom takes roughly six to eight hours with the Marineshaver™ Pro. Actual time depends on the number of coating layers, hull shape, plus working conditions. One customer stripped the gelcoat from a 36-year-old Pearson 26 sailboat in one day, including jackstand areas.

Is the depth of cut adjustable?

Yes. The depth adjusts from 0 to 0.080 inches (2 mm), letting you match the cut to your coating thickness. Start shallow on unfamiliar surfaces, then increase the depth until the coating comes off cleanly. Most gelcoat jobs strip in a single pass at the right depth setting.
